CARIBBEAN WEEK FOR AGRICULTURE GOOD FOR THE REGION

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Defined by the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, the Agriculture Policy for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) came into focus in several ways during the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2008.

Addressing the audience on Wednesday, 8 October in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines at the official opening of CWA 2008, CARICOM Assistant Secretary-General for Trade and Economic Integration, Ambassador Irwin Larocque said CWA provided several avenues to profile the positives in Caribbean agriculture.

STUDENTS EMBRACE CSME

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The first batch of students who participated in the recently launched project ‘Students Engaging the CSME through Field Promotions’ have lauded the practical, more hands-on approach to learning about the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

ADD VALUE TO COMMODITIES FOR GROWTH IN AGRICULTURE SECTOR - MINISTER TUFTON

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) In order to realise long-term growth from the agriculture sector, the Caribbean must add value to traditional crops such as sugar cane and bananas.

This view was stressed by the Minister of Agriculture of Jamaica, Hon. Dr. Christopher Tufton, when he addressed the official opening of the Caribbean Week of Agriculture in Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Wednesday 8 October.

CARICOM SET TO DEVELOP REGIONAL CRIME PREVENTION STRATEGY

EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY DELEGATION ON STUDY TOUR AT CARICOM SECRETARIAT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) An eleven-member delegation from the East African Community Secretariat (EACS) is on a three-day study tour at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana, to draw on the experiences of the regional integration movement.

The delegation, led by Dr. Nyamajeje Weggoro, Director, Productive and Social Sector of the EACS, comprises representatives from the five Partner States of the East African Community (EAC) - Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and Burundi.
