CARICOM Promotes Public Awareness of Free Movement

The CARICOM Secretariat is pressing ahead with its public education programme regarding the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). It will be hosting a series of three (3) public sensitisation sessions on the facilitation of travel within the CSME. The first of these will be held in Dominica on Friday, September 9 and a wide cross-section of the public is expected to attend. These sessions are being facilitated by resource persons from the Secretariat and implemented with assistance provided under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

Kim Collins hailed for accomplishments

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 26, 2016 (SKNIS): St. Kitts and Nevis’ National and International track and field sprint icon Kim Collins has been congratulated on Kim Collins Day, which was celebrated in the Federation on August 25.

In a congratulatory message to Mr. Collins, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Youth and Sports, the Honourable Shawn Richards, reflected on the track and field star’s achievements.

CARPHA Must Receive Zika Blood Samples Within 5 Days of First Symptom

With growing concerns over more people being infected with the Zika virus, the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has said Zika blood samples, for laboratory confirmation, must be taken and sent to the agency no more than five days from the onset of the first sign of illness.

Based on the technology the agency uses to perform the Zika tests, Executive Director at the CARPHA, Dr James Hospedales said any samples received after a five-day period may not be valid for testing.

Guyana seeks technical support for oil and gas take-off

PRESIDENT David Granger on Thursday held discussions with top oil and gas officials of Trinidad and Tobago during a meeting at his Shiv Chanderpaul Drive office. T&T Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Ms. Nicole Olivierre and Deputy Permanent Secretary in her ministry, Mr. Andre Laveau, met with Mr. Granger and Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mr Raphael Trotman.

The Head of State said that as Guyana prepares to harness its oil and gas potential, the country is looking forward to technical support and cooperation from its CARICOM sister state.
