My fellow citizens and residents, congratulations on our thirty-third Independence Anniversary. This year we celebrate our Independence under the theme “Promoting Prosperity through Sustainability and National Unity.”

This theme was chosen specifically to encapsulate how only a stable nation in unity can thrive and prosper, for the betterment of all of its citizens and residents.

‘There is much to be proud of’ – SG tells St. Kitts and Nevis

Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said that there was much to be proud of as St Kitts and Nevis reflected on its period of nationhood.

On the eve of the observance of the St Kitts and Nevis’ 33rd anniversary of Independence on Monday, the Secretary-General pointed to the substantial progress that the CARICOM Member State had made in its quest for sustainable development.

The Bahamas elected Chair of Caribbean Tourism Organisation

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados  (15 September, 2016) – The Bahamas is now Chair of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), with the election of its Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe.

The election took place on 15 September in Barbados at the organisation’s annual general meeting during the CTO’s State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC).

Clean energy entrepreneurs trained at boot camps

Some 163 clean energy entrepreneurs have been trained at three boot camps hosted by the Caribbean Climate Innovation Centre (CCIC).

The programme, which offers mentorship and guidance to entrepreneurs in the field of clean energy, is now inviting more companies to be a part of their upcoming boot camp in Antigua and Barbuda from September 27 to 29. The deadline for the applications is September 20.

PAHO calls for strengthening road safety legislation

New report shows traffic fatalities are up in the Americas, primarily among motorcyclists. To reverse the trend, PAHO/WHO recommends adoption and enforcement of laws related to five key risk factors: speed, drinking and driving, and the use of motorcycle helmets, seatbelts and child restraints.

ICT Ministers meet in Barbados next week

A Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) on Information and Communication Technology will be held in Barbados on 21 September, 2016.

The meeting will focus on the Draft Roadmap for the CARICOM Single ICT Space which is to be approved by Heads of Government. At their Regular Meeting in July in Georgetown, Guyana, the CARICOM Heads of Government mandated the COTED (ICT) to convene before the end of September.
