September focus on statistics

The Caribbean Community( CARICOM) Secretariat earlier this month participated in a series of meetings that were geared at promoting the production and use of quality statistics in the Region.

CARICOM Secretariat representatives participated in sessions on Disability Measurement Statistics in Bridgetown, Barbados, and the Caribbean Conference on Transformative Agenda for Official Statistics, also in Barbados.

Belize City, Friday (CRFM)—Fifteen fisheries personnel from the Region travelled to Australia this week to participate in a specialised training course on ‘Enhancing Fisheries Management Capacity in the Caribbean Region’.

The Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS) partnered in developing the four-week course, to strengthen the Region’s capacity in fisheries law and fisheries management.

Collaboration key to creating single ICT space – Barbados Telecommunications Minister

(Barbados Government Information Service) Minister responsible for Telecommunications in Barbados, Senator Darcy Boyce, has stressed the importance of collaboration between Caribbean countries if the regional vision of a single ICT (Information and Communications Technology) space is to be achieved.

Senator Boyce, who is also president of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), was speaking yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 2016 ICT Week, taking place at the Crane Resort under the auspices of the CTU.

PM Harris speaks at Clinton Global Initiative event

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER (PRESS SEC) – Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris was a featured participant in a small group discussion organised by the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) as part of the three-day CGI 2016 Annual Meeting in New York City.  The small group discussion titled Combating Teen Pregnancy, Cervical Cancer, and HIV in Caribbean Girls and Women was held from 2:00pm to 3:30pm on  Wednesday, 21 September, the final day of the CGI 2016 Annual Meeting.

CSME Public Procurement Training Gets Underway

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat continues its drive toward establishing an integrated and single CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Public Procurement Regime. A week-long train- the-trainers workshop began on Monday, September 19 at the Secretariat’s CSME Unit in Barbados. The workshop’s aim is to train procurement specialists on the instruments that make up such a regime. Representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis and Saint Lucia are attending this week’s training.

Consultations underway to improve social protection in Region

Regional representatives converged at the CARICOM Headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana, on Monday to discuss measures to improve social protection within the Region.

Social Protection refers to interventions from public, private, voluntary organisation and social networks, to support communities, households and individuals, in their efforts to prevent, manage and overcome a defined set of risks and vulnerabilities.
