Guyana seeks technical support for oil and gas take-off

PRESIDENT David Granger on Thursday held discussions with top oil and gas officials of Trinidad and Tobago during a meeting at his Shiv Chanderpaul Drive office. T&T Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Ms. Nicole Olivierre and Deputy Permanent Secretary in her ministry, Mr. Andre Laveau, met with Mr. Granger and Guyana’s Minister of Natural Resources, Mr Raphael Trotman.

The Head of State said that as Guyana prepares to harness its oil and gas potential, the country is looking forward to technical support and cooperation from its CARICOM sister state.

Guyana Animation Network (GAN) Launched

The Guyana Animation Network (GAN) was officially launched at an Open Day in the Generation Next Conference Hall in Georgetown, Guyana, on Saturday 2 July 2016. GAN is a network established to use it resources to create and provide access to opportunities for persons within Guyana’s artistic, creative and technological communities; to develop the requisite skills, with their talents and to service the Caribbean Animation Industry.

 

National Company Registries Going Online

Company registries within the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) are set to go online this year. This development is due to an ongoing project funded by the 10th European Development Fund to create an online regional registry of companies. This will serve as a central repository of information on companies and other legal entities established in the CSME. This should address some challenges related to the Right of Establishment regime within the CSME.

Guyana stands to be first country to receive assistance from CDF in second funding cycle

Guyana is likely to be the first member state to benefit from a new country assistance programme (CAP) under the CARICOM Development Fund’s (CDF) 2015-2020 funding cycle, since that country is already eligible to receive further support by virtue of having paid up its full assessed contribution to the organisation.

CEO Rodinald Soomer disclosed this recently stating: “The CDF is ready and willing to make this possible and wishes to thank the government of Guyana for its demonstration of commitment to, and confidence in, the CDF.
