TT Central Bank authorises first company to issue e-money - CARICOM Business

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has issued a provisional registration to PayWise Limited as an electronic money (e-money) issuer. The provisional registration authorises PayWise to issue e-money in Trinidad and Tobago from September 1, 2022, becoming the first entity, apart from banks and non-bank financial institutions, so authorised.

PayWise will also be allowed to enlist new customers. PayWise is registered as a payment service provider since 2019 by CBTT.

Agri Investment Forum

The premier Agri-Food Investment Forum and Expo will be held on May 19 – 21, 2022 at the Arthur Chung Convention Center under the theme: “Investing in Vision 25 by 2025”. The overall goal of this important event is to achieve the 25% by 2025 vision of reducing regional food imports by fostering accelerated and targeted investment in agriculture and food production and its business ecosystem within CARICOM member states.

Solar farm in Guyana to be commissioned soon

(Department of Public Information) Very soon, residents of Mabaruma, Region One (in Guyana) will benefit from an improved power supply when the new solar farm is added to the generation mix.

The construction and installation of the $264Million solar farm is now complete and the contractor is currently completing work on the automatic switching from the generator to the solar farm.

Facilitating Intra-Regional Agri-Food Trade

  • Informs of the recent study on Non-Tariff Measures (NTM) and Non-Tariff Barriers (nTB), and their impacts on intra-regional agri-food trade.
  • Clarifies, in a concise manner, the context of this long-standing issue and the difference between nTMs and nTBs.
  • Calls for consensus on the need for, and  type of concerted actions to be taken to ‘systematically dismantle’ as opposed to ‘eliminate’ these nTBs within CARICOM.
