Bilateral discussions on sugar exports

Export of sugar to Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago was the subject of separate and successful bilateral discussions between Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation of Guyana Clement Rohee and his counterparts from the two sister CARICOM countries, K.D Knight of Jamaica and Kenneth Valley of Trinidad and Tobago. These discussions took place during the just concluded Special meeting of the CARICOM Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), which took place in Georgetown, Guyana, 1-4 September 2003.

CARICOM/CARIFORUM, GOVERNMENT OF ITALY AND FAO SIGN FOOD SECURITY PROJECT

The Caribbean Community/CARIFORUM, the Government of Italy and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) signed a US$5 million Food Security Project in Milan on 21 March 2003.

The Project is Italy's response to a US$26.2 million programme submitted by CARICOM/CARIFORUM to a Meeting on Food Security at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington, DC in November last year.

CARICOM APPLAUDS FAO INITIATIVE “TELEFOOD ‘99” IN JAMAICA

Jamaica will host, with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the Third Annual Telefood Concert on November 28, 1999.

This unique event, born out of the 1996 World Food Summit in Rome, is to mobilise solidarity for the fight against hunger and raise funds to support grassroots projects in developing countries. It is being staged for the first time in the Western Hemisphere. The first concert was held in Rome, and the second in Senegal.

A Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat representative is a among a 19-member party of officials from the private and public sectors in Member States and technical support agencies who are making a study tour of Chile's agribusiness sector, during this week.

STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE TENTH INTER-SESSIONAL MEETING OF THE CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITYON THE UNITED STATES’ UNILATERAL IMPOSITION OF SANCTIONS AGAINST THE EUROPEAN UNION BANANA IMPORT MARKETING REGIME

We, the Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community, meeting in Paramaribo, Suriname, deplore the precipitate unilateral action of the United States to impose sanctions against the European Union (EU) over its Banana Import Regime. This unauthorised and illegal action undermines the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and threatens the economic survival and social and political stability of several Caribbean countries.
