GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Jul 16, CMC – The 16th Caribbean Community (CARICOM)-Japan Consultation began here on Tuesday with the Asian country signalling its intention to further deepen relations with the 15-member grouping.
Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ambassador Akira Yamada, said his country has paid increased attention to the development agenda of the region and that Tokyo’s increased interest had been manifested in its participation in the ministerial meetings of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), in May.
He said the visit to Japan by Haiti’s President Michel Martelly last December also underscored his country’s commitment to the region.
