COMMITTEES APPOINTED TO CONSIDER AGENDA ITEMS

The Second Plenary Session of the Sixth Heads of Government Conference of Commonwealth Caribbean Countries today appointed two Committees to consider a number of the items on the Agenda.

The Committees, the Legal and General Committee chaired by the Hon. S. S. Ramphal, Minister of State and Attorney General, Guyana, and the Budget and Economic Committee under the Chairmanship of the Hon. E.H. Lake, Minister of Trade and Production, Antigua, were appointed by the Conference following the submission of a Work Programme by the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Caribbean Regional Secretariat, Mr. William G. Demas.

The Conference this morning adopted the Report on the activities of the Commonwealth Caribbean Regional Secretariat for the period February 1969 to March 1970, including the Progress Report on the implementation of decisions of the Fourth and Fifth Heads of Government Conferences.

The Plenary Session adjourned until tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon in order to give both Committees the opportunity to consider the Agenda Items referred to them.

The Conference also discussed the matter of the cessation of the Canadian sugar refund to Commonwealth Caribbean sugar producing countries.

The Committees will submit their Reports to the Plenary Session on its resumption tomorrow.
