A team from the CARICOM Secretariat and representatives of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) on Friday held talks at the CARICOM Secretariat in Georgetown, Guyana. The CARICOM Secretariat team included Dr. Wendell Samuel, Assistant Secretary-General (ag) Economic Integration, Innovation and Development (EIID); Ambassador David Prendergast, Director, Sectoral Programmes; Mr. Sherwin Toyne Stephenson, Programme Manager, Crime and Security; Mr. Davion Leslie, Programme Manager, Human Resource Development; and Mr. Timothy Odle, Deputy Programme Manager, Services Sector Development.
CANOC President, Mr. Keith Joseph, led his team which included Mr. Brian Lewis, General Secretary; Mr Godfrey Munroe, President, Guyana Olympic Association (GOA); and Ms. Vidushi Persaud – McKinnon, Secretary GOA.
Mr. Joseph stressed the beneficial linkages between sports, youth, crime and wealth creation and urged that the Draft Regional Strategy for Sporting Services be finalised, approved and implemented.
Mr. Joseph provided some context for CANOC’s visit.
