BARBADOS
Dear Mr. Lara
The performance of the Team last Saturday in the final of the ICC one-day tournament Champions Trophy must go on record as one of the greatest catalysts for West Indian unity and pride ever.
The jubilation of the team and spectators at the decisive "boundary" reverberated throughout the CARICOM Member States and the Diaspora to whom Cricket remains their national game and a cultural passion.
On behalf of the Governments and People of the Caribbean Community, the Staff of the Secretariat and myself, please accept and convey our pleasure and gratitude to you and the team for restoring West Indian self-esteem and regional pride in a sport that transcends borders and cultures. We look forward to continuing progress to even greater heights of achievement.
By way of this note I extend an invitation to you to visit the Secretariat at a mutually convenient time, to enable us to express our appreciation directly to you and the team.
Congratulations and thanks once again.
Yours sincerely
Sgd.
EDWIN W. CARRINGTON
SECRETARY-GENERAL
