The CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Officials of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States met in Georgetown today, to participate in a training workshop in the use of database, which was developed to monitor the movement of skilled nationals in respective Member States.

The database, which was developed by the Statistical Department of the CARICOM Secretariat in collaboration with the Directorate of Human and Social Development and the CSME Unit, is designed to provide Member States with timely information on the free movement of skilled nationals.

Delegates to the workshop are expected to install the database and to input the relevant data in order to facilitate the accurate monitoring of the movement of skilled persons.

Member States will be required to submit the compiled information to the CARICOM Secretariat quarterly, to enable the organisation to determine regional trends as they relate to the movement of skilled nationals in the CSME. The free movement of skilled persons is a major pillar of the CSME.

It is expected that this mechanism will alleviate any concern by Member States with regard to "overflooding" of skilled nationals. The Workshop was opened with brief remarks by Mr. Steven Mac Andrew, CARICOM Specialist, Free Movement of Skills/Labour.
