CARICOM TO OBSERVE GENERAL ELECTIONS IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will send an electoral monitoring mission to observe the General Elections in St. Kitts and Nevis on 25 October 2004 following an invitation from that country's Prime Minister, the Hon. Dr. Denzil L Douglas.

Mr. Laurence Thomas, former Deputy Chief Elections Officer, Trinidad and Tobago, will lead the four-member team of electoral observers from the Community. The Observer Mission will hold consultations with electoral officials, leaders of political parties, government officials, representatives of the business community, civil society and the media on various aspects of the electoral process.

The Observer Mission will observe the preparation for the elections as well as the conduct of the elections on Polling Day including the counting of ballots.

A Report on the outcome and findings of the CARICOM Observer Mission will be submitted to the Community through the Secretary-General of CARICOM.
