The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), has launched a Regional High School Youth in Agriculture Video Competition.

The competition - an outcome of the 17th Caribbean Week of Agriculture held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines last month - provides an opportunity for students to use their creativity to showcase, in a one-minute video, the vital role agriculture plays in their community, country, and the Region. The competition aims to raise awareness and showcase successful agriculture production programmes that are being led by high school students throughout CARICOM; educate young people about the significance of agriculture to food security, sustainability, and economic development; showcase innovations, techniques, and ideas that make the field exciting and impactful; promote sustainable agricultural practices and inspire participants to advocate for and implement these practices in their communities; and inspire interest in agriculture as a successful career option or business opportunity.

Guidelines for the competition can be accessed here. Students must submit entries by the deadline, 2 December 2024, for a chance to win prizes ranging from US$1 700 - US$1 000

For detailed information, including background, objectives, video content guidelines, and prize details, please refer to the Notice for the Competition found at https://agricarib.org/youth-in-agriculture/.
