Amrikha Singh, Programme Manager for Sustainable Development at the CARICOM Secretariat, participated in a forum on financing biodiversity conservation in infrastructure projects in Cali, Colombia on Wednesday 23 October. The event was held during the Conference of Parties to the UN Biodiversity Convention (COP16) which is underway in the South American nation. Representatives of governments, financiers and non-governmental organisations came together to discuss existing approaches to financing biodiversity projects, the risks and opportunities posed by infrastructure development to meet the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) target of 30 by 30; and financing mechanisms and instruments. The event was held against the background of a biodiversity financing gap to the tune of US$711B per year, and the acknowledgement that infrastructure is a major driver of biodiversity loss and environmental pollution.
Ms. Singh’s presentation focused on systems for financing biodiversity in infrastructure projects in the Caribbean.
