CARICOM and Cuba Foreign Ministers get together in Grenada

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana)     Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Cuba will hold discussions on advancing cooperation on developmental issues between the two sides on Friday 6 September in Grenada. A special retreat of CARICOM’s Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), preceded Friday’s meeting.

CARICOM-Cuba Cooperation, which dates back to 1972, has seen notable cooperation in areas such as health, culture, education and natural disasters and this meeting will focus on these areas as well as matters related to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) of which Cuba is President Pro Tempore. Discussions will also take place on matters related to Trade and co-operation in relation to the Caribbean Sea.

The Foreign Ministers, at this their Fourth Meeting, will examine issues on the global agenda including Environment and sustainable Development in the context of the post 2015 Development Agenda and it implications for Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) in the Caribbean Region. The challenges of climate change confronting the Region along with persons living with disabilities in the Region are also on the agenda.
