CARICOM BOOK COVER WINNER TO RECEIVE PRIZES

Andrew Davies, winner of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat Book Cover Design Competition, will on Friday 27 July 2001 receive his prizes in Bridgetown, Barbados. The simple ceremony is scheduled for the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education starting at 3 p.m.

The book, "Our Caribbean Community" is aimed at providing young people of the Community with an insight into the history and process of our regional integration movement.

The entry of 23-year-old Davies, a national of Jamaica residing in Barbados, was selected from among more than 200 entries from Youth across the Region, in the competition to design the book's cover.

Davies' submission was selected by a panel of judges, which included Mr. Ricardo Redman, an outstanding graphic designer of Barbados as the Chief Judge; leading Caribbean Book Publisher, Mr. Ian Randle of Jamaica; and CARICOM Secretary-General Mr. Edwin Carrington.

In capturing the top prize, Davies will receive a notebook computer, a portable printer/scanner, a trip to a CARICOM Member State (including accommodation for five days/four nights), and a copy of the book autographed by Secretary-General Carrington.

Representatives of the sponsors for the prizes are scheduled to be present at the award ceremony. They include Banks DIH, Guyana; BWIA; the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago; and Courts, Trinidad.

The primary reader on CARICOM will be published by Ian Randle Publishers of Jamaica.
