(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General, H.E. Edwin W. Carrington today begins a 5-day mission to Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda and Dominica.
In Montserrat, the Secretary-General will meet with newly elected Chief Minister, Honourable Lowell Lewis, to discuss matters relevant to Montserrat's role and participation in CARICOM. Secretary-General Carrington will also take the opportunity to visit the CARICOM Village - a 15-residence project built by CARICOM following the initial eruption of the Mount Soufriere volcano which destroyed the capital, Plymouth.
In Antigua and Barbuda, the Secretary-General will participate in observances to mark the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of Independence.
In Dominica, the Secretary-General will receive the country's highest award, along with CARICOM Chairman, Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, on behalf of the Caribbean Community.
