STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF MS SILVANA JORDAN

Ms Silvana Jordan, Senior Project Officer, Communications Unit at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat died in a vehicular accident on Monday September 20, 1999.

Ms Jordan, 36, who joined the Secretariat in June1996, was the first Surinamese national to be employed at the Secretariat following the accession of Suriname to membership of the Caribbean Community and Common Market in July 1995.

She brought to the Secretariat a unique approach to the performance of her duties and became an integral part of the Information and Communications Division. She will be remembered for her successful efforts in assisting to broaden the base of contributors to the CARICOM Perspective, the flagship publication of the Secretariat.

The Secretary-General, other members of Executive Management, her colleagues in the Communications Unit and all the staff of the Secretariat feel a sense of loss at her tragic death and extend condolences to her immediate family and in particular her two daughters, Carmen, 11 and Stephanie, 2 years, 9 months.
