CARICOM COMMUNITY MOURNS PASSING OF PROFESSOR DOUGLAS HALL

Nov 25, 1999

The Secretariat of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has learnt with great sadness of the passing of Dr. Douglas Hall, Professor of History at the University of the West Indies.

Professor Hall, a Jamaican, was a distinguished Historian at the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies and many of the Secretariat's staff, including the Secretary-General had the good fortune to benefit from his tutelage.

Professor Hall's many works on the history of the Caribbean have been pivotal to a comprehensive understanding of the Region's development both socially and economically, and have served as viable tools for many of the analyses of the Region's evolution in these spheres.

The Secretary-General and Staff of the Secretariat of CARICOM join Jamaica and the rest of the Community in mourning the loss of this remarkable Jamaican, outstanding scholar, teacher and son of the entire Caribbean and the diaspora, and convey deepest sympathies to his family.
