CARICOM SG congratulates Saint Lucia’s new Prime Minister

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has congratulated new Saint Lucia Prime Minister Mr Phillip J Pierre on his election to office, and his Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) for its resounding victory in the country’s 26 July General Elections.

Prime Minister Pierre was sworn in two days after his SLP won 13 of the 17 seats contested in the Elections. The outgoing United Workers Part won two seats and the other two went to Independent Candidates.

The Secretary-General in his congratulatory message welcomed the new Prime Minister as he takes his place within the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

Here is the full text of the Secretary-General’s Congratulatory message:

On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I offer my sincere congratulations to you and the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) on your resounding victory in the General Elections of 26 July. 

I also congratulate you on your election as the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia.

The overwhelming victory of the Saint Lucia Labour Party indicates that the people of the country have every confidence in your leadership to guide them on a path that would ensure their progress

I welcome you as you take your place within the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.

You can be assured, Prime Minister, of the support of the CARICOM Secretariat and the Community during your term of office.
