BUREAU LOOKS AT CONFERENCE ON THE CARIBBEAN

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Bureau of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will receive an update on the status of preparations for the Conference on the Caribbean to be held in Washington DC, USA next month when they meet in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Saturday 26 May.

The three day Conference on the Caribbean to be held from 19-21 June, 2007 will include a summit meeting between CARICOM Heads of Government and the President of the United States of America, George Bush as well as a meeting between CARICOM Foreign Ministers and United States Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. The CARICOM Leaders and Ministers are also scheduled to meet with Members of both Houses of Congress during the Conference.

The Bureau, comprising of the Chairman of CARICOM, Dr the Honourable Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines, the incoming chairman, the Rt Honourable Owen Arthur, Prime Minister of Barbados, the immediate past chairman, the Honourable Dr Denzil Douglas, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis and the Secretary-General of CARICOM, His Excellency Edwin Carrington will also review arrangements for the Donors Conference on Agriculture to be held in Trinidad and Tobago on 2 June, 2007.

Other items to be considered by the Bureau include recommendations coming out of the 23rd Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development which looked at transportation issues and those emanating from the 4th Meeting of the Council of Ministers of National Security and Law Enforcement which ended in Trinidad and Tobago on 24 May.
