US CONGRESSMAN RANGEL SPECIAL GUEST AT CONFERENCE OF HEADS OF GOVERNMENT

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Congressman Charles Rangel, a leading Member of the United States House of Representatives will be a Special Guest at the 28th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to be held in Barbados from 1-4 July, 2007.

Congressman Rangel, a Democrat representing a District in New York is Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over the US Federal Government’s revenue, taxation, social security programmes and trade legislation. The Heads of Government met with Mr Rangel and members of his committee on Wednesday 20 June, 2007 during the recently concluded Conference on the Caribbean.

Mr Rangel, a decorated war hero from the Korean War was first elected to Congress in 1970 and has been re-elected in each succeeding election.
