Tomorrow, on International Girls in ICT Day, the CARICOM Secretariat will embark on an online celebration of girls and young women in ICT and will use the opportunity to launch the programme for 2019-2020.

International Girls in ICT Day, an initiative backed by all ITU Member States in ITU Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Rev. Dubai, 2018), aims to encourage and empower girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of ICTs. This will enable both girls and technology companies to reap the benefits of greater female participation in the ICT sector.

The CARICOM Secretariat, its Girls in ICT Partners, as well as CARICOM Member States will be using this online campaign to highlight regional women working in the ICT Sector, as well as to educate and encourage girls and young women to choose careers in ICT.

This will be done through social media via various platforms such as CARICOM Today (blog), Facebook and Twitter; and will include polls, surveys, and features of CARICOM girls and women in ICT.

The Secretariat encourages widespread participation in the event using the following hashtags: #caricomgirlsinict; #caricomwomeninict; #girlsforcaricomsingleictspace.

In addition to the Online Launch, the CARICOM Secretariat will engage in various programmes for Girls (and Boys) in ICT.
