FAO to continue assisting region develop agricultural sector

SANTIAGO, Chile, CMC - The effects of climate change on agriculture and its impact on food security were among matters discussed between Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary General Irwin LaRocque and the Director General of the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) José Graziano da Silva.
A Guyana-based CARICOM Secretariat statement issued after the talks said that the two sides also discussed the FAO’s assistance to the CARICOM in areas such as agriculture, “specifically in the areas of food security and assistance with sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures, and food and plant health”.
“The CARICOM Secretary General and the FAO Director General also discussed the effect of climate change on agriculture and its impact on food security, and explored ways in which FAO can help to address this issue.
