(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) His Excellency Edwin Carrington has sent the Community's best wishes to the athletes of the Community participating in the Olympic Games which began in Beijing, China on Friday.
Secretary-General Carrington said that success should be measured not only by medal tallies but also by the strenuous efforts expended to produce best performances.
"Everyone will undoubtedly strive to give of their best and that is all that we could ask for. If in that process medals are won - and we hope they are - then to the athletes and the Region be the glory," he added.
The Secretary-General concluded the he had no doubt that the athletes would do the Region proud as they seek to go faster, higher and stronger while adhering to the creed of the Olympic Movement, "the most important thing is not to win but to take part."
