The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extends hearty congratulations to Ms Veronica Campbell-Brown on her gold medal performance in the Women’s 200 metres at the Beijing Olympics.

Ms Campbell-Brown's victory is a triumph for determination and resilience having achieved the rare feat of defending an Olympic crown successfully in the sprint events. With her compatriot Ms Kerron Stewart placing third, Jamaica won seven of the 12 medals available in the individual sprint events including all four gold medals while helping the Caribbean to collect eight of the 12.

On behalf of the Community and on my own behalf as Secretary-General, it is with pride that I recognise the sterling, or should I say golden, accomplishment of Ms Campbell-Brown and her colleagues and congratulate the Government and People of Jamaica on their overwhelming success on the track at the Beijing Olympics.
