Government still confident of geothermal project

ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – The Dominica government Monday said it would continue discussions with the European Union and other stakeholders amid reports that a French company Electricite de France (EdF) was withdrawing from the geothermal project here. In a statement, the Roosevelt Skerrit government said that over the past six months, it has made “significant progress on the terms of an agreement with EdF and NGE, a French infrastructural development company regarding the project. “In January of 2013, both parties entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly pursue the best options for the construction of a plant for domestic supply and for export to Guadeloupe and Martinique via undersea cable.”
