Warner resigns as chairman of ruling party

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Less than 24 hours after he submitted his resignation as Minister of National Security, Austin “Jack” Warner has resigned as chairman of the ruling United National Congress (UNC).
Media reports said Warner had submitted his resignation hours after being removed from the cabinet.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, who on Sunday night accepted the resignation of her embattled minister, had told reporters that any decision regarding Warner’s position as chairman of the UNC, the biggest partner in the four-party coalition People’s Partnership government would remain that of the 70-year-old Warner.
