Former prime minister faces challenge for leadership of opposition party

CASTRIES, St. Lucia, CMC – Former prime minister Stephenson King faces a challenge from his former tourism minister for leadership of the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP) when it holds its annual convention in July.
Both men were nominated to contest the post of party leader as the UWP, which was defeated in the last general election, gears for the July 28 convention.
The UWP has for the past few weeks convened a series of constituency conferences, culminating with the conference of delegates over the weekend at which nominations for positions on the party executive were announced.
