Sir Edwin not concerned over US and China courtship of CARICOM

Jun 05, 2013

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Trinidad and Tobago to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) sees no reason for concern over the recent visits by leaders of the two most powerful countries of the world to this region. Concerns have been raised in some quarters over the recent visits of US Vice- President Joe Biden and China’s President, Xi Jinping, and his promised US$3 billion loan to the region. Speaking with the media following yesterday’s American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago’s breakfast meeting at Capital Plaza, Port of Spain, Carrington said the fact that CARICOM is being sought out by both the US and China is nothing new, and he is not sure why people are seeing danger in the courting of the region by China and the US.
