Speaker wants court ruling despite opposition withdrawing motion

Jul 09, 2013

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC – Speaker of the St. Kitts-Nevis National Assembly, Curtis Martin, says he is seeking a court ruling on certain legal matters despite public statements by opposition legislators that they have withdrawn a motion before the High Court regarding the motion of no confidence filed against the government of Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas. Martin said by discontinuing the claim before a proper determination by the High Court, “and by doing so at the very last minute, they (opposition legislators) may have inflicted a grave injustice on this National Assembly and the people of this Federation”. Last week, Prime Minister Douglas said he was not surprised at the decision of the main opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) to withdraw the motion before the courts challenging the delay in debating the motion of no confidence in the Parliament.
