KINGSTON, Jamaica, Observer -The calendar once again turns our focus on this period of recognition for this nation, beginning today with Emancipation Day, August 1. There will be a number of occasions over the next few days on which the National Anthem and National Pledge will be sung and said out loud with greater fervour than other months. And, among the many observances and vigils planned, we will also recall the fight of our forebears for "full free". This period of recall and celebration will not be worth its place on the calendar if the people across land and sea, for whom these events are planned, do not mark the date and theme in their hearts and lives.
