SANTIAGO, Chile, CMC – The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will host the first meeting of the Regional Conference on Population and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The  August 12-15 conference will be opened in the presence of the Presidents of Uruguay and Ecuador, José Mujica and Rafael Correa, respectively, executive secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Bárcena, and executive director of UNFPA, Babatunde Osotimehin.
The meeting will be attended by official delegations from most ECLAC member-countries and associate members, as well as by senior international officials, experts in population and representatives of non-governmental organizations.
