BAHAMAS-POLITICS-Opposition politicians to boycott sitting of Parliament

Aug 08, 2013

NASSAU, Bahamas, CMC – Opposition Leader Dr. Hurbert Minnis Wednesday said that opposition legislators would boycott the sittings of Parliament for the period for which he is not permitted to speak during the ongoing debate on legislation to regulate stem cell therapy in The Bahamas.
Minnis in a statement said that during the debate on July 17, Speaker Dr. Kendal Major had requested that he withdraw certain remarks, but had refused to do so, resulting in the Speaker indicating that he would not be allowed to speak for the remainder of the debate on the bill.
“As a consequence, the members of the FNM (Free National Movement) will also absent themselves for the period that I, as Leader of the Opposition, am not permitted to speak,” he said.
