(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) His Excellency Edwin Carrington, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on Friday staunchly rejected terrorism in all its forms and manifestation.
“I take this opportunity today to reiterate that message and to reaffirm CARICOM’s staunch rejection of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Excellency, the Caribbean Community extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims of those attacks and to the Government and People of India,” the Secretary-General said.
Secretary-General Carrington made the remarks shortly before accepting the Letters of Accreditation of H.E. Subit Kumar Mandal, new Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of India at a ceremony at the CARICOM Secretariat at Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana.
On 26 November last, there was a terrorist attack on the city of Mumbai which resulted in the deaths of more than 180 persons. About 300 persons were injured.
Last week, the Secretary-General had sent a Message of Condolence to the Government of India on behalf of CARICOM unreservedly condemning the series of coordinated attacks on Mumbai.
“The large number of persons killed and injured in these heinous and gratuitous acts of violence has evoked outrage among the People of the Caribbean Community, shocked at the senseless loss of life and suffering,” the Secretary-General said in the message of condolence.
At the accreditation function, the Secretary-General also extended condolences to the family and the Government and people of India on the death of former Prime Minister, V.P Singh.
