Discussions ongoing about use of medical marijuana

Aug 30, 2013

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Advocate - As various states across the United States legalise the use of medicinal marijuana, and others debate its benefits, it appears that Barbados might not be entirely immune from the discussion. This, as sources within the island’s Ministry of Health revealed to the Barbados Advocate recently that at the “highest level”, the use of medicinal marijuana to treat pain, cancer and sickle cell treatment was being discussed. However, they noted that “any decision made regarding its use and acceptance as a treatment in any setting would have be evidence-based”. The question was raised following a recent Barbados Drug Service Lecture at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, which examined Sickle Cell Disease – Compli¬cations and Their Treat¬ments.
