Speaking at the start of today’s meeting, CARICOM’s Secretary-General addressed the Prime Minister, saying, “I’m here to brief you, not only because you’re hosting [the Thirtieth Inter-Sessional Meeting taking place in February 2019], but because you’re the incoming Chairman of the Conference of CARICOM.”

Next year, Prime Minister Harris will assume the Chairmanship of CARICOM from January 1st to June 30th, 2019.

“The Chairman’s function as Head of CARICOM is very important, very significant, since you [will] act on behalf of the Heads in between sessions and the like,” Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said.

“You will see me a lot more often in the next six to seven months,” CARICOM’s Secretary-General also told the Prime Minister.  “Certainly, I’ll be in touch a lot more often because I do have to work very closely with my Chair,” Secretary-General LaRocque added, noting that he will consult with Prime Minister Harris “very, very regularly.”
