The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is celebrating sustainable tourism this year, and Jamaica is to host the major event on the programme – the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism.

The Jamaica Observer has been reliably informed that the event will be staged between November 27 and 29 in the city of Montego Bay.

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2017 the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, recalling tourism’s potential to advance the Universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The International Year aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behaviour towards a more sustainable tourism sector than can contribute effectively to the SDGs.
