Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has extended congratulations to the Prime Minister-elect of Canada, Mr. Justin Trudeau.

Mr. Trudeau and the Liberal Party won a landslide victory in Canada's Federal Elections held on 19 October.

In a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister elect, the Secretary-General said he looked forward to working with Mr. Trudeau and his new government to deepen the "fruitful and longstanding relationship" between CARICOM and Canada.

The resounding mandate that the People of Canada have conferred on you and your party is undoubtedly a reflection of the confidence they repose in your leadership and in the ability of your party to successfully address issues of importance for improving their welfare and for the continued development of the country.

The Caribbean Community extends its best wishes to you for every success, as you assume the mantle of leadership of your country and for the continued well-being of your people. The Community also looks forward to working with you and your Government to deepen the fruitful and longstanding relationship which exists between CARICOM and Canada, given our shared values and mutual interests," the Secretary-General said in the message.
