Sep 02, 2015

Once again the youth of the Caribbean Community have demonstrated without a doubt that a nation’s size is no barrier to global success.

It gives me great pleasure on behalf of CARICOM, to extend heartiest congratulations to the athletes from our Member States who excelled at the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships which ended in Beijing, China on Sunday.

Particular kudos must go to the Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce who continued their reign over the world’s best with dominating performances. Their colleagues in the sprint relay teams and in the women’s 1600 metres relay, as well as Danielle Williams in the hurdles, also displayed gold medal prowess bringing glory to their country and the Region.

Their fellow athletes from The Bahamas, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago also did the Community proud with their sterling performances earning them medals at the highest level track and field event in the world.

These young CARICOM citizens continue to provide a fine example to us all of how opportunities can be seized through combining skill and talent with commitment and hard work.

Congratulations to you all!
