To mark the occasion, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, dispatched a congratulatory message to Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller.
On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) I extend hearty congratulations to you and the People of Jamaica on the occasion of your 53rd Anniversary of Independence.
The text of the message reads:
On behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), I extend hearty congratulations to you and the People of Jamaica on the occasion of your 53rd Anniversary of Independence.
Jamaica has created a brand that has world-wide resonance and is being nurtured through the excellence of its citizens in many fields, particularly in sports, culture and academia.
The resilience, courage and pride of the Jamaican people have been the qualities so necessary for Jamaica to overcome the challenges of these relatively early years of nationhood, bolstered by the national motto ‘Out of Many, One People’ to ensure the progress and development of the country.
The country can therefore boldly and justly proclaim ‘Proud and Free; Jamaica 53’. It is a theme and celebration with which all of us in the Caribbean Community join in celebrating.
Best wishes on your anniversary and may Jamaica continue on its path to growth and prosperity.
