Jamaican, US Governments committed to successful visit by President Obama

Apr 08, 2015

he visit to Jamaica by the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama on April 8 and 9 is no longer being designated a State Visit, which had previously been agreed and communicated.

The change takes into account the time constraints of the short duration of the visit and the established nature of a State Visit in the Jamaican context.

Throughout the planning of the Visit there has been, and continues to be, continuous dialogue between counterparts in the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the United States.

The Government of Jamaica and the Government of the United States are committed to ensuring a successful and productive visit.

President Obama will arrive in Jamaica on April 8.

On April 9 the US President will have bilateral talks with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller. He will also hold a summit meeting with the Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community and lay a wreath to honour veterans of World War I and World War II.

President Obama will also host the President’s Town Hall forum with Caribbean and Regional Young Leaders.

He departs Jamaica on April 9. (Jamaica Information Service)
