St. Kitts and Nevis teachers to be trained on the CSME this week

Mar 25, 2015

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), through the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Unit, the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and the Ministry of Education are working together to expose secondary school teachers to the CSME and teaching skills aimed at influencing curricula.

Thirty secondary school teachers in St. Kitts and Nevis have been selected to attend a two day seminar on 26-27 March 2015. The event is made possible with funding from Canada.

The objectives of the session are to make CSME information readily available to teachers and students; developing capacity for participants to assist students in making conscious career choices framed by an appreciation of the CSME as a “single space”; and helping teachers become more aware that knowledge, experience and expertise are products in the Caribbean marketplace.

On completion of the training, participants are expected to be able to define the CSME and its significance to the CARICOM Region; have a firm grasp of the CSME’s role in influencing personal socio-economic outcomes and human development. Focus will be on curriculum design and continuous development; incorporating CSME concepts into current teaching approaches to the existing secondary curriculum.

The seminar will be facilitated by Dr. Carol Andrews-Redhead of the regional consulting firm, Deloitte, as contracted through the CARICOM Secretariat.  The CARICOM Secretariat will be represented at the seminar by the Deputy Programme Manager, Education, Ms. Patricia McPherson and the Senior Project Officer, Technical Action Services Unit (TASU) Ms. Konyo Addo.
