Elections Supervisor explains delays, announces winning candidates

Feb 18, 2015

St. Kitts and Nevis Supervisor of Elections  Mr. Wingrove George late Tuesday afternoon announced Team Unity as the winners of the general elections held on Monday 16 February 2015.

He confirmed that Team Unity, an alliance of three opposition parties, won seven of the 11 seats contested, with the outgoing St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party of Dr. Denzil Douglas winning three and the Nevis Reformation Party, one.

Mr. Georges said his decision to suspend the announcement of results early Tuesday morning was due to ‘certain processes’ that had to be completed and wanting to make sure the information reported was factual in case candidates made challenges. The Chairman of CARICOM and other regional leaders had condemned the delay and called for the immediate release of the results in keeping with the laws and customs in St. Kitts and Nevis.
