Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy called on Saint Lucians to pursue excellence in all their endeavors as our Nobel laureates have done.
Saint Lucia’s Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy officially launched Nobel Laureate Week 2015 on Monday.
In honor of the achievements of Saint Lucia’s two Nobel Laureates, Sir William Arthur Lewis and Hon. Derek Walcott, the Nobel Laureate Week Committee highlighted a number of activities.
Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy emphasized the need for local initiatives to be emulated by the international community.
“We should also think of the broader international community when we are developing, implementing and executing national initiatives,” she said. “Also to realize that what we do can be influenced positively by what is happening outside so that we highlight the global perspective, and hope that we sell ourselves as our two Nobel laureates have done.”
Her Excellency also called on Saint Lucians to pursue excellence in all their endeavors.
“It is a call for excellence in all fields of endeavor, and in all spheres of activities: arts, literature, science, and music. In the simplest things that you do, do it to the best of your ability. That is what excellence is all about.”
This year’s activities will be observed under the theme “Celebrating Excellence: National Initiatives, Global Perspectives.”
