ANTIGUA-POLITICS-Political parties continue public debate on date for general election
ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer says he has no problem with supporters of the main opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) picketing his office on Friday maintaining that he would not be pressured into naming the date for the general election.
Addressing supporters of the ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) on Thursday night, Spncer, who is seeking a third consecutive term in office, again reiterated that the announcement for the date for the polls is being held up by two court matters initiated by the ALP and for which ruling are being awaited.
The ALP said the picketing of the office is to force Prime Minister Spencer to dissolve Parliament and name the date for the general election, insisting that the government is an illegitimate one.
