Health authority chairman: UWI statement confusing

Mar 14, 2014

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, Express -The statement issued by The University of the West Indies (UWI) in defence of the doctor and consultant was confusing, says chairman of the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) Dr Shehenaz Mohammed.

“I’m surprised that they can draw a conclusion without any discussions with us and I’m even more surprised that anyone can draw conclusions without any facts when we ourselves have to appoint an expert panel in order to reach a conclusion,” said Mohammed.

On Wednesday, UWI issued a release defending the doctor who performed a Caesarian surgery on Quelly Ann Cottle on March 1 where seven-month-old baby Simeon’s head was cut open, penetrating the brain tissue resulting in the baby’s death.
