Regional environmental officers are attending a workshop to help them prepare for a major international conference on biodiversity, to be held in Mexico in December. The CARICOM ACP-MEAs project is hosting the regional workshop October 11-13 at the Grand Coastal Hotel in Guyana.
A major national consultation on public procurement gets underway in Barbados today. The one-day consultation is to examine the Draft CARICOM Model Bill to facilitate the national implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Public Procurement Regime. The proposed regime aims to establish an integrated and single public procurement space for Member States. Representatives of public and private sector organizations as well as procuring entities are attending the consultation at the Blue Horizon Hotel.
More than 50 policy-makers, bankers and project developers from the Region, gathered in St. Kitts and Nevis September 12-15, to discuss and enhance their knowledge on diverse approaches to energy efficiency in the cooling sector.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat continues its drive toward establishing an integrated and single CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) Public Procurement Regime. A week-long train- the-trainers workshop began on Monday, September 19 at the Secretariat’s CSME Unit in Barbados. The workshop’s aim is to train procurement specialists on the instruments that make up such a regime. Representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis and Saint Lucia are attending this week’s training.
(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat is hosting a one-day regional consultation on the establishment of a regional tripartite social dialogue mechanism and a regional social protection floor. It takes place on Monday, September 19 at the Secretariat’s headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana. The aim is to discuss a proposed social dialogue mechanism and social protection for the region in order to provide recommendations to the Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD).
Environmentalists were on Wednesday encouraged to seriously consider the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) as a mechanism that can support Regional conservation objectives.
32 participants from the disciplined forces, including police, military and fire services, successfully completed four days of training in preparation for their role in providing relief and humanitarian assistance in the event of a disaster. The annual training workshop of the CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) was held at the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency’s (CDEMA) headquarters in Barbados from August 8th to 12th 2016.
As a result of the training, farmers from the region will be able to put more money in their pockets and more affordable, local food on the plates of Caribbean residents.
