CARICOM and ILO Sign Significant MOU

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is closer to setting up a labour market information system for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME).

Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRoque, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on behalf of the CARICOM Secretariat with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in June. The MOU allows CARICOM Member States to utilise ‘.Stat’, a software tool, for the facilitation of labour market analysis and other related functions. The MOU was signed at the CARICOM Secretariat’s headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

CARICOM to train Regional environmentalists on implementing MEAs

The CARICOM Secretariat, through the Multilateral Environmental Agreements in African, Caribbean and Pacific Countries (ACP – MEAs) project will host a Training of Trainers workshop on Mainstreaming Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) June 21 – 23, 2016 for environment educators and professionals.

A project directed at providing youngsters with entrepreneurship skills dubbed the Creativity for Employment and Business Opportunity (CEBO) continues to be implemented in CARICOM Member States. The most recent CEBO workshops were held in St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Antigua and Barbuda.

CARICOM Secretariat and CDB collaborate to launch Human Resource Development Commission

Region continues climate change planning

The Caribbean Community continues to plan the way forward following the recent signing of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

Member agencies of the Regional Coordinating Committee on Climate Change (RCCC) met in St. Lucia 27-28 April, to review the progress made in the implementation of the region’s climate change plan and discuss the way forward.

Reduce mosquito breeding to zap Zika – CARPHA

As the Caribbean public health sector ramps up its response to the Zika virus in the Region, officials are strongly advising the adoption of personal protective measures to avoid mosquito bites and the reduction of mosquito breeding grounds.

The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) issued the advice on Monday at a press conference held to address the presence of the Zika virus in the Caribbean.

Strong regional collaboration credited for CARICOM’s successful Climate Change campaign

CARICOM’s well prepared and experienced team of negotiators, and a focused, unified campaign, helped the Caribbean Community get its red line climate change issues all represented in the final Agreement at the just ended Climate Change conference, COP 21, in Paris, France. And, CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has hailed the strong regional collaboration, given the critical importance of climate change to the Region’s survival.
